Multidrug resistance, cytokines, induction of differentiation and apoptosis in leukemias.
Immunological, clinical aspects and pathogenesis of vascular complications in Behcet’s disease.
Therapy of acute leukemias lymphomas and myeloma, including bone marrow transplantation, management of graft-versus-host disease and adoptive immunotherapy.
PARTICIPATION in BASIC RESEARCH and CLINICAL TRIALS
Basic Research Activities
3’-deoxyadenosine (cordycepin) in the treatment of TdT+ acute lymphoblastic leukemias and lymphomas. Supported by NIH Grant No. CA52020. Based on the in vitro studies and SCID-mice experiments, cordycepin is accepted for a highpriority phase I clinical trial by NCI starting in 1997. (See list of publications)
Mechanism of action of 3’-dNTP cytotoxicity on TdT-positive leukemic blasts including programmed cell death (apoptosis) and signal transduction.
Interleukin-2 and IL-7 receptor as a target in the treatment of leukemias and lymphomas.
Induction of differentiation and apoptosis in CML-blastic transformation cell lines by arginine butyrate via downregulation of p210 protein.
In vitro stem cell culture systems in hematopoietic disorders (Supported by Turkish Scientific and Technical Research Council, Research Grant number; TAGG546,1991-1992).
Flow cytometric analysis in leukemias and lymphomas.
Endothelial cell function in Behcet’s disease (Research grant supported by Eczacibasi Scientific Research Fund 1990-1991).
